Lodge selection on a Tanzania safari shapes the experience at least as much as park selection. The same Serengeti game drives look different from a permanent tented camp than from a mobile camp or a fixed lodge. This guide organises the northern circuit's main properties by category so you can match your accommodation to your priorities.
Safaris Tanzania works with all of the properties listed here and can advise on current availability and suitability for your specific itinerary dates.

Serengeti National Park
Permanent Tented Camps (Mid-Range)
Permanent tented camps offer the classic safari experience — canvas walls, en-suite bathrooms, and the sounds of the bush at night — without the price premium of the top luxury lodges. They are often better positioned for game viewing than fixed lodges because they can be sited closer to seasonal wildlife concentrations.
- Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge — Built into a rocky kopje in central Serengeti, designed to blend with the landscape. Good central positioning for year-round game viewing. Pool, spa, reliable service.
- Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge — On a rocky outcrop near Seronera, with panoramic views. One of the better-value permanent camps in the central Serengeti.
- Kati Kati Tented Camp — Seasonal camp in central Serengeti. Simple, well-run, positioned close to Seronera River wildlife corridor.
Luxury Lodges and Camps
- Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti — Pool, spa, and highest-end service in the central Serengeti. Best for guests who want maximum comfort alongside game viewing.
- Singita Grumeti — Exclusive concession in western Serengeti, positioned for June-July river crossing season. Among the most expensive properties in East Africa — and among the best.
- Asilia Namiri Plains — Remote eastern Serengeti, reopened after years as a cheetah research reserve. Exceptionally high cheetah and wild dog density. Best for predator specialists.
- Nomad Tanzania Lamai Serengeti — Northern Serengeti near the Kenya border, ideal positioning for August-October Mara River crossings. Intimate camp, strong naturalist guides.

Calving Season (Ndutu Area)
- Ndutu Safari Lodge — The original Ndutu property, on Lake Ndutu's shore. Atmospheric rather than luxurious. Exceptional February positioning.
- Lake Masek Tented Lodge — More comfortable than Ndutu Safari Lodge, similar positioning. Good option for calving season with higher service standards.
- Asilia Ubuntu Camp — Seasonal mobile camp deployed in the calving grounds January-March. Moves to follow the herds. Best positioning flexibility during peak calving.
Ngorongoro Crater
Crater Rim Lodges
All accommodation near Ngorongoro Crater sits on the rim rather than inside the caldera. The daily descent into the crater takes 45-60 minutes. Crater rim properties have expansive views; on clear mornings you can see the full caldera floor from the lodge terrace.

- Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge — Best value on the crater rim. Stone and glass construction blends with the forest. Reliable service and good food.
- Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge — Larger property, slightly further from the main descent road. Well-run family option.
- Ngorongoro Crater Lodge (andBeyond) — The standout luxury property. Dramatic Maasai-meets-European décor perched directly on the crater rim. High price point; genuinely exceptional experience.
- The Highlands (Asilia) — Above the crater rim forest, dome-shaped luxury tents with crater views. More intimate than the fixed lodges; suited to experienced safari travellers.
Tarangire National Park

- Tarangire Treetops — Suites built into and around ancient baobab trees. Unique architecture; strong elephant viewing directly from camp. Best in class for the Tarangire experience.
- Oliver's Camp — Remote southern Tarangire, exclusive-use feel. Offers walking safaris and fly camping in addition to standard game drives.
- Tarangire Sopa Lodge — Reliable mid-range option. Good base for park exploration without premium pricing.
Lake Manyara

- Lake Manyara Tree Lodge (andBeyond) — Eight treehouses in the mahogany forest on the lake's edge. Among the most architecturally distinctive lodges in northern Tanzania. Often combined with a short Manyara park visit.
- Manyara Serena Safari Lodge — On the Rift Valley escarpment above the lake. Views over the lake and park. Good mid-range option.

How to Choose
Lodge selection for a specific itinerary depends on dates, group composition, wildlife priorities, and budget. A property that is ideal for June river crossings is not the best base for February calving. A luxury camp that works brilliantly for two adults may not suit a family with young children.
