★★★★★
I was worried about transitioning from the mountain to the safari mentally. The day's drive from Arusha to the Serengeti was perfect — it gave us time to decompress and shift gears. Then the Serengeti floored us completely. Kassim understood both experiences and made them flow.

Your journey

Day by Day

Arusha to Kilimanjaro — Marangu Gate
1

Arusha to Kilimanjaro — Marangu Gate

Morning briefing with your guide in Arusha. Drive to Marangu Gate (2 hours). Sign in, meet your mountain crew — guide, assistant guide, cook, porters. Begin the climb through the montane rainforest zone. Arrive at Mandara Hut (2,700m) in the afternoon. Your first evening on the mountain.

2

Mandara to Horombo Hut

Through the moorland zone. The rainforest gives way to giant heather and lobelia — a prehistoric landscape. Views back to the forest below and Mawenzi peak ahead. Arrive at Horombo Hut (3,720m). Altitude may begin to be felt — your guide monitors every member of the group. Dinner in the mess hut.

3

Acclimatisation Day at Horombo

Acclimatisation rest day. Morning hike to Zebra Rock or the saddle between Kilimanjaro's two peaks. This day at altitude is critical for summit success. Your cook prepares lunch and dinner. Guides brief you on summit night procedures. Early to bed.

Horombo to Kibo Hut
4

Horombo to Kibo Hut

Across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The vegetation ends. This is the alpine desert zone — lunar, silent, vast. Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700m). Rest all afternoon. Dinner at 5pm. Sleep as early as possible. Summit attempt starts at midnight.

Summit Night — Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
5

Summit Night — Uhuru Peak (5,895m)

Midnight start up the scree slope to Gilman's Point (5,681m) on the crater rim. From Gilman's, the final push along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak — the highest point in Africa at 5,895m. Your guide carries supplemental oxygen as a precaution. Summit at dawn. Descent to Horombo Hut. Celebration dinner.

Descent to Marangu Gate and Arusha

Final descent through the rainforest. Sign out at the gate. Certificate presentation. Drive back to Arusha. Rest and shower at your hotel. Debrief dinner with your mountain crew.

Arusha to Serengeti National Park
7

Arusha to Serengeti National Park

The transition from mountain to plains. Drive west to the Serengeti (6 hours with a stop at the Ngorongoro highlands viewpoint). Arrive for an afternoon game drive. The contrast from the mountain's silence to the Serengeti's abundance is one of the great experiences in Tanzania. First night in the park.

Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater
8

Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater

Early morning game drive in the Serengeti. After breakfast, drive east to Ngorongoro (3 hours). Descend into the crater — all Big Five on the floor, black rhino included. After lunch on the crater floor, ascend and drive back to Arusha for airport or overnight hotel.
