Family Explorer Safari
Big adventure for small explorers. Where kids do not just see the Big Five, they learn to track them. Junior Ranger program teaches bush skills, animal behaviour, and conservation. Kids aged 6-16 at 50% off.
Trip Highlights
“Our 9-year-old said this was better than Disney World. The Junior Ranger program kept both kids engaged even when we were not seeing animals. The guides were patient, the lodges were comfortable, and the pace was perfect. My daughter still tracks evidence of our dog in the backyard three months later.”
Your journey
Day by Day

Arrival — Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Private transfer to Arusha Planet Lodge (1 hour). Welcome briefing with your family safari guide over sundowners. Kids receive their Junior Ranger kits: field notebook, binoculars, animal checklist, and tracking guide. Early dinner at 6pm to adjust to the new time zone. Pool time and lodge grounds exploration.

Tarangire National Park — The Elephant Kingdom
Morning departure for Tarangire National Park (2.5-hour drive). Arrive mid-morning for your first game drive. Within 30 minutes, you will likely encounter elephant herds — Tarangire has over 3,000 elephants. Your guide explains elephant family structures, how they communicate, and why they remember. Kids learn to identify individuals by ear shape and tusk patterns. Afternoon arrival at lodge with pool time.

Full Day Tarangire — Junior Ranger Training
Early morning game drive (6:30am-10am) with breakfast picnic in the park. Kids spot baobab trees (some over 1,000 years old). Your guide teaches animal tracking basics: footprints, dung, and feeding signs. Return to lodge for lunch and midday break — swim, rest, journal time. Afternoon Junior Ranger activity: kids learn to cast animal tracks, identify bird calls, and understand predator-prey relationships. Evening game drive focused on predator behaviour.

Ngorongoro Crater — The Big Five in a Bowl
After early breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area (2 hours). Descend 600 meters into the crater at 7am. Full-day crater safari with picnic lunch at the hippo pool viewpoint. This is the Big Five day: black rhino, lions, elephants, buffalo, and with luck, a leopard. Kids spot flamingos (thousands!), hippos, and jackals. Your guide explains how the volcanic caldera formed 2.5 million years ago.

Serengeti — Endless Plains & First Predators
Scenic drive through Ngorongoro highlands and Olduvai Gorge (birthplace of humanity — brief stop) en route to Serengeti Central (3 hours total with stops). Game drive along the way. Arrive at camp for late lunch. Afternoon orientation walk around camp (safe, guided) and sundowner. Evening Junior Ranger session: stargazing with your guide. Kids learn Southern Hemisphere constellations and traditional Maasai navigation by stars.

Full Day Serengeti — Big Cats & Behaviour
Morning game drive (6:30am-10:30am) focused on big cat sightings. The Serengeti has the highest concentration of lions, cheetahs, and leopards in Tanzania. Your guide tracks a pride or cheetah family — kids learn how predators hunt, communicate, and raise cubs. Midday break at camp. Afternoon drive along the Seronera River for hippos, crocodiles, and a possible leopard in a sausage tree. Bush dinner under the stars with kid-friendly menu and marshmallow roasting.

Serengeti — Maasai Cultural Exchange & Final Drive
Morning game drive with focus on animal behaviour — kids observe how animals interact, feed, and move. Return to camp for brunch and packing. Afternoon visit to a nearby Maasai boma. Maasai children teach your kids traditional beadwork, jumping dance, and traditional games. Maasai warriors lead a short bush walk showing medicinal plants and tracking skills. Return to camp for final dinner and Junior Ranger certificate ceremony.

Departure — Serengeti to Arusha
Optional early morning game drive if your flight schedule allows. Breakfast at camp. Depart for Seronera airstrip for optional flight to Arusha (1 hour) or drive back to Arusha with game viewing stops en route (5-6 hours). Arrive Arusha by early afternoon. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Junior Ranger certificates and digital photo pack from your guide delivered within 2 weeks.
