Photographic Safari Tanzania
A safari built around the camera. Optimal positioning, golden-hour light, long lens targets, and a guide who understands photography. Seven days covering Tarangire's elephants, Ngorongoro's scale, and the Serengeti migration at its most photogenic.
Trip Highlights
“My guide was a photographer himself and it showed in everything he did — he understood where to position, when to wait, how to read the light. I came home with images I'd imagined but never expected to actually capture. The wildebeest at dawn with the mist on the plains is my desktop image two years later.”
Your journey
Day by Day

Arusha to Tarangire — Elephants and Baobabs
Depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park — known for its extraordinary elephant concentrations and ancient baobab trees that make for striking foreground in wide landscape shots. The light in Tarangire is often cleaner than in the busier northern parks. Your guide will position the vehicle for silhouette shots against the baobabs at sunset, and track the elephant herds for behavioural close-ups.

Tarangire to Ngorongoro — Rift Valley Composition
Morning in Tarangire for continued elephant and predator photography before driving to Ngorongoro. The descent into the Ngorongoro Crater at golden hour provides one of Africa's great photographic compositions — the scale is difficult to convey in a single frame but rewards careful composition. Afternoon and evening in the crater for wildlife photography at optimal light.

Ngorongoro Crater — Full Day
The Ngorongoro Crater floor is one of the most productive wildlife photography locations in Africa. In a single day you can photograph lions, hippo, flamingo on the lake, elephant against the crater walls, and the vast open grassland with the rim rising above. Your guide will position for behaviour — lion prides with cubs, hyena at a carcass, cheetah on a termite mound. Golden hour on the crater floor is exceptional.

Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti — Migration Herds
Drive into the Serengeti through the highlands and down onto the plains. Depending on the season, the migration herds are either in the northern Serengeti (river crossing territory) or dispersed across the central plains. Your guide will use real-time intelligence from other drivers and his own experience to position you where the herds are most concentrated. The scale of the migration for photography is unlike anywhere else on earth.

Central Serengeti — Predator Session
Full day in the central Serengeti, concentrating on predator photography. The central Serengeti has a high density of lion prides and leopards in the riverine areas. Your guide will target specific pride territories and known leopard trees. The morning session focuses on the first 90 minutes after sunrise — the best light of the day for predator photography. Afternoon for continued tracking or landscape shots as the light changes.

Serengeti — Migration Close-ups and Golden Hour
A full day dedicated to migration photography — herds in movement, dust clouds from thousands of hooves, the patterns formed by concentrated animals against the plains. This is Tanzania's great photographic spectacle and the Serengeti rewards patience and positioning. Your guide will choose a location and wait for the herds to come, rather than chasing them.

Serengeti to Arusha or Balloon Safari Extension
Final morning game drive in the Serengeti — dawn departure for last photographic opportunities before the flight to Arusha. Arrive Arusha for international connections or onward travel. Optional: extend with a hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti at sunrise — an unmatched aerial photographic perspective.
