Tarangire National Park river valley panorama with elephants

Tanzania's elephant capital

Tarangire Safari

12,000 elephants, ancient baobabs, and the most underrated wildlife density in East Africa. Tarangire safaris from $832/person — direct operator since 1978.

Why Tarangire

What Makes Tarangire Special

Elephant Capital

Tarangire has over 3,000 elephants and the highest dry-season concentration of any East African park. Herds of 200–400 at the Tarangire River are common from June to October.

Ancient Baobabs

Some of the baobab trees in Tarangire are over 1,000 years old. These surreal silhouettes define the park's character and make photography here unlike anywhere else in Africa.

Tree-Climbing Lions

The lions of Tarangire are famous for climbing sausage trees and resting in the branches — a behaviour rarely seen elsewhere. Combined with leopards and cheetahs, predator density is exceptional.
