Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Pick up from Arusha. Drive south to Tarangire National Park (2 hours). Afternoon game drive through the baobab zone along the Tarangire River. Tarangire has more elephants per square kilometre than any other park in Tanzania — afternoon drives here often produce sightings of 200+ animals.
Full Day Tarangire
Two game drives — morning and afternoon — with full use of a private 4x4 Land Cruiser. Morning: lions resting in the shade of the massive baobabs that define Tarangire's landscape. Afternoon: the river bend where elephant families drink at sunset. One of Tanzania's great free experiences.
Tarangire to Ngorongoro Crater Rim
Morning game drive in Tarangire before driving north to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (3.5 hours). Arrive at the crater rim (2,300m elevation) in the afternoon — views across the 19km caldera. Sundowner drinks. Tomorrow, the crater floor.
Ngorongoro Crater Descent and Return
Descend into the crater at dawn. The Ngorongoro Crater floor contains a self-contained ecosystem with all Big Five as permanent residents, including approximately 30 black rhino — the most reliable rhino sighting in Africa. Half-day game drive. After lunch on the floor, ascend and drive to Arusha (3.5 hours).
