Day by Day
Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Morning pickup from your Arusha hotel. Drive south to Tarangire National Park (2 hours). The dry season concentrates wildlife around the Tarangire River — you will see elephant herds of 300+, baobab trees the size of houses, and a density of animals that surprises even returning visitors. Afternoon game drive until sunset. Dinner at the lodge.
Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
Early morning drive in Tarangire — predators are active at dawn. Lions rest in baobab shade. After breakfast, drive north through the Great Rift Valley escarpment to the Serengeti (5 hours, with a stop at Olduvai Gorge viewpoint). Arrive for a late afternoon game drive across the golden plains. First night under canvas in the world's most famous park.
Full Day in the Serengeti
The full Serengeti day. Two game drives — morning and late afternoon. Seronera River area: crocodiles waiting at the banks, hippo pools, leopards resting in sausage trees. The Seronera Valley is the highest concentration of big cats in Africa year-round. Migration herds if in season — 1.5 million wildebeest on the move. Picnic lunch in the bush from your cool box.
Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Morning game drive before departure. Drive east to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (3 hours). Arrive at the crater rim in the late afternoon — 600 metres above the caldera floor with views across a 19km-wide collapsed volcano that contains the highest density of predators in Africa. Sundowner drinks on the rim. Dinner with crater views.
Ngorongoro Crater Descent and Return to Arusha
Descend 600 metres into the crater at dawn. The Ngorongoro Crater floor is where all Big Five live permanently — and your best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino (one of only ~30 that live here). Lions, hippos, flamingos on Lake Magadi, hyena clans. Half-day drive on the floor. After lunch, ascend and drive back to Arusha (3.5 hours). Drop at hotel or KIA airport.
