7-Day Tanzania Safari
Complete 7-day Tanzania safari covering the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire. Our classic northern circuit for first-time safari travellers — private vehicle, expert guide, all-inclusive.
Trip Highlights
“We spent three nights in the Serengeti and on day four our guide Yusuf woke us at 5:30am saying he had heard from rangers that a leopard had taken a warthog in a tree near camp. We were there in 15 minutes. No other vehicle. Two cubs playing with the carcass while their mother watched from a branch above. That moment alone was worth the whole trip.”
Your journey
Day by Day

Arrival in Arusha & Safari Briefing
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Your Safaris Tanzania representative meets you before you reach the baggage carousel. Transfer to your Arusha lodge, settle in, then meet your guide for a safari briefing over a warm drink. This is your chance to ask anything: about the route, the wildlife, what to pack. Your guide has done this circuit hundreds of times.

Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, drive south to Tarangire National Park (2 hours). Tarangire holds 12,000+ elephants at peak dry season — the highest concentration in Tanzania. You will see them crossing the river in family groups, juveniles wrestling, older bulls standing in the shade of the baobabs. Lions hunt the elephant corridors. Leopards rest in fig trees. The park is quieter than the Serengeti and the wildlife is equally dense. Afternoon game drive until sunset.

Tarangire to Serengeti via Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Early morning game drive in Tarangire — lions are most active before 8am. After breakfast, drive north through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Maasai Steppe opens up on your left, the Rift Valley escarpment drops away on your right. You descend into the Serengeti through the Naabi Gate by mid-afternoon. The golden grass plains stretch to the horizon. Your first game drive begins immediately — the central Seronera Valley is 20 minutes from the gate and is where resident lions, leopards, and cheetahs are reliably found year-round.

Full Day Serengeti — Seronera Valley
A full day in the Serengeti. The Seronera Valley has the highest year-round concentration of big cats in Africa — lions on the kopjes, leopards in the sausage trees along the river, cheetahs on the open plains. Your guide has watched the same leopard females here for years and knows their territories. July to October: the Migration passes through the central plains — 1.5 million wildebeest, thousands of zebras. January to February: the Ndutu calving grounds are an hour south, where predators follow the newborns. Your guide positions the vehicle for the best views, not for other vehicles benefit.

Full Day Serengeti — Migration or Resident Wildlife
Second full Serengeti day. Your guide wakes at 5:30am and checks in with park rangers on wildlife movements. If the Migration has moved north, you drive north. If the cheetah mother on the eastern plains has cubs, you go east. This is the advantage of a private vehicle — your itinerary follows the wildlife, not a fixed schedule. July to October: north to the Mara River for river crossing drama. January to February: south to Ndutu for calving season. Year-round: the resident prides of the central Serengeti. Optional add-on: hot air balloon safari at dawn ($468-$624 per person).

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Morning game drive before departure — the Serengeti at dawn is the best light of the day. Lions are returning from hunts, hyena clans are finishing their night, elephants are moving to water. After breakfast, drive east to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (3 hours). You climb 600 metres from the Serengeti plains to the crater rim — the temperature drops 5-8 degrees as you ascend. The view from the rim stretches across a 19km-wide caldera that contains the highest density of wildlife in Africa.

Ngorongoro Crater & Return to Arusha
Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater at first light — 6:15am. The crater floor is 264 square kilometres and the walls rise 400-610 metres above you. This is where all Big Five are permanently resident. Lions on the Lerai Forest floor. Hippos in the Lake Magadi shallows. Flamingos on the soda lake edges. The endangered black rhino: approximately 30 live in the crater. Your guide knows their last known locations from yesterdays ranger reports. Half-day game drive on the crater floor. Ascend and drive back to Arusha (3.5 hours), arriving by mid-afternoon.
