How it works

What Is a Safari Package?

A safari package bundles every element of your trip into one transparent price. Instead of booking a vehicle here, a lodge there, and hoping the two connect, you get one itinerary, one invoice, and one operator accountable for everything.

Most first-time safari travellers assume they need to piece together dozens of separate bookings — the vehicle, the guide, the camps, the park fees. In reality, the standard industry model is a package. The difference is who is stitching it together.

When you book through a European broker, they sub-contract the actual safari to an operator like Safaris Tanzania, then add 20–40% on top. The package looks the same on paper. The price is not.

When you book directly with Safaris Tanzania, you are paying the operator price. No broker. No markup. The same guide, the same vehicle, the same camps — at the price they actually cost.

If you are still choosing between routes, start with our Tanzania safari tours comparison to match day count, parks, and budget before requesting a custom package quote.

2026 group rates

Per-Person Price by Group Size

Travelling with family or friends? The 2-traveller base rate is just the start. As your group grows, the fixed costs (vehicle, guide, fuel) spread across more heads — and the per-person rate steps down. All rates below are anchored on the Classic tier (our most-booked package).

Group sizePer person (Classic)Savings vs. 2-traveller baseHow it works
2 travelers$1,716Base rateMost popular for couples — the headline price on every Classic tier card.
3-4 travelers$1,560Save $156 / personBest value jump — same private vehicle, fixed cost spread across 3 or 4 heads.
5-6 travelers$1,456Save $260 / personFills a Land Cruiser pop-top — comfortable for adults, two window seats each.
7-8 travelers$1,300Save $416 / personTwo vehicles running in convoy, same guide-and-driver team, your group only.

Why does the per-person rate drop?

A safari has a fixed cost (the Land Cruiser, the TATO-certified guide, the fuel) and a per-head cost (park fees, meals, lodge beds). For two travellers, the fixed cost is split two ways. For four travellers, it is split four ways. The per-person rate drops as a result — but not by 50%, because the per-head costs stay the same. The 2026 group rate curve above shows the real per-person price for each band.

Past 8 travellers, what happens?

We do not cram 8 people into a 6-seat pop-top. For 7–8 guests, we run two vehicles in convoy with the same lead guide — your group stays together, eats together, and shares the same picnic stops. For 9+ guests, we split into two self-contained convoys with separate guide-and-driver teams. Each convoy is quoted as its own private package with a small group discount on the second.

The Classic curve above is the headline. Budget and Premium follow the same shape — for a 4-traveller Budget 5-day you are looking at roughly $870 per person, for a 4-traveller Premium 7-day roughly $3,050 per person. Get an exact band quote for your group on WhatsApp.

Common questions

Safari Package FAQs

What is a Tanzania safari package?

A safari package is an all-inclusive safari deal covering your vehicle, guide, accommodation, park fees, and meals. Instead of booking each element separately, a package bundles everything so you know exactly what you are paying for. Safaris Tanzania packages are transparent — we show you the full price breakdown before you commit.

What is included in a Safaris Tanzania safari package?

Every package includes a private 4x4 safari vehicle, an experienced TATO-certified guide, all accommodation, all park entry fees, all meals, and airport transfers. International flights, travel insurance, and personal spending are not included.

How much does a Tanzania safari package cost in 2026?

Safaris Tanzania safari packages start from $936 per person for a budget 5-day northern circuit and range up to $5,200+ per person for a luxury fly-in safari. Most travellers choose our Classic tier at $1,716 per person for two sharing. 2026 group rates step down for 3-4 travellers ($1,560/pp), 5-6 travellers ($1,456/pp), and 7-8 travellers ($1,300/pp) on the Classic tier - the curve is below on this page. Solo travellers should budget $2,500-$2,900 for a 5-day Classic private safari after the single supplement.

Can I build a custom safari package?

Yes. Tell us your travel dates, preferred parks, group size, and budget on WhatsApp and Don will put together a custom itinerary. We do not use templates — every package is planned around your specific trip. Most custom quotes are sent within 2 hours of your enquiry. If you have 3+ travellers, ask for the 2026 group rate band quote — it is usually lower than our standard 2-pax base.

What is the difference between budget, classic, and premium packages?

The difference is accommodation tier and vehicle setup. Budget uses comfortable tented camps with shared game drives (max 6 guests per vehicle). Classic uses quality permanent camps or lodges with private game drives. Premium uses luxury lodges or camps with a dedicated lead guide and maximum scheduling flexibility. All three tiers qualify for the 2026 group rate curve — for a 4-traveller group, Classic works out to $1,560 per person, Budget roughly $870 per person, Premium roughly $3,050 per person.

Are safari packages only for groups?

No. All Safaris Tanzania packages are private — your group travels alone. Whether you are a solo traveller, a couple, or a family of eight, you get your own vehicle and guide. We do not mix groups or sell open-departure group tours. For groups of 4-8, our 2026 group rate curve drops the per-person price meaningfully below the 2-traveller base. For solo travellers who want to share, our <a href="/small-group-safari-tanzania/" className="text-terracotta underline">shared safari departures</a> run fixed-date trips with 4-6 guests at no single supplement.

Can I add a Kilimanjaro climb or Zanzibar to my safari package?

Absolutely. We offer combination packages that include a Kilimanjaro climb, a Zanzibar beach extension, or both. Our <a href="/tanzania-safari-zanzibar/" className="text-terracotta underline">11-Day Safari &amp; Zanzibar</a> itinerary is a popular option. For the Kili side, our sister site <a href="https://mountkilimanjaroclimb.com/?utm_source=safaris-tanzania&utm_medium=page-crosssell&utm_campaign=packages" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" className="text-terracotta underline">Mount Kilimanjaro Climb</a> covers every route, every cost line, and a direct line to the same operator. All elements are run by the same family — Safaris Tanzania handles the safari, Mount Kilimanjaro Climb handles the climb. You are not being referred to a separate operator.

What happens after I book a package?

Don contacts you directly on WhatsApp to confirm every detail. You will receive a full day-by-day itinerary, your guide's name and background, and a packing list tailored to your travel dates. Your guide will meet you at the airport when you arrive.

How many days do I need for a Tanzania safari?

Five to seven days covers the northern circuit well. Four days is the minimum — any shorter and you are rushing. Eight to ten days allows for a more relaxed pace, a balloon safari add-on, or a Zanzibar extension. Most first-time visitors do the 5-day northern circuit: Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti. See our <a href="/tanzania-safari-quotes/" className="text-terracotta underline">safari quotes</a> for exact per-person pricing by duration.

What is the best Tanzania safari package for a family?

Our 5-day family safari package is designed for families with children. It covers Tarangire (elephants and baobabs), Ngorongoro Crater (compact, extraordinary wildlife), and the Serengeti. The itinerary is paced for children — shorter game drives, lodge accommodation with pools, and a private guide who adapts to your children's energy and interest. Children under 12 typically pay 50–75% of adult rates. <a href="/tanzania-family-safari/" className="text-terracotta underline">See our dedicated family safari guide</a>.

What is the cheapest safari package in Tanzania?

The cheapest safari package is our budget 5-day northern circuit from $936 per person. This uses comfortable tented camps, shared game drives with a maximum of 6 guests per vehicle, and includes all park fees, meals, and a certified guide. The wildlife experience is identical to the luxury version — you see the same lions, elephants, and leopards. What differs is the accommodation.

Do I need a visa for Tanzania safari?

Most nationalities need a Tanzania tourist visa. The e-visa (via evisa.immigration.go.tz) is the simplest option — apply online before departure and receive approval within 2-3 business days. The cost is $52 for most nationalities. If you are combining a safari with a Kilimanjaro climb, you need the same visa — there is no separate climbing visa.

What is the best time of year for a Tanzania safari package?

The dry season (June–October) is peak wildlife viewing — animals concentrate around water sources and the Serengeti migration is at its peak. But it is also peak pricing. The green season (March–May) offers lower lodge rates, fewer vehicles in the parks, and excellent wildlife viewing. January–February is the calving season in the southern Serengeti — exceptional for predators and newborns. Every season has something remarkable to offer.

Can I get a quote before committing to anything?

Yes — and you should get multiple quotes before deciding. Send us your preferred dates, group size, and accommodation preference on WhatsApp and Don will send you a detailed, itemized quote within 2 hours. There is no obligation and no deposit required to receive a quote. Compare our price to any broker quote you have already received — the difference is typically 25–35%.

What if I need to cancel or change my safari booking?

Our cancellation policy is straightforward: a 10% deposit secures your booking. The balance is due 30 days before departure. Cancellations more than 30 days before departure receive a full deposit refund minus a small administrative fee. Changes to dates or itinerary are handled without penalty as long as we have availability. We do not have hidden cancellation fees or complicated small-print conditions.

Which package is best for an elephant-focused safari?

Our 5-day Northern Circuit is the strongest choice for an elephant-focused safari because Tarangire — the highest-density elephant park in Tanzania — anchors day one, followed by Ngorongoro Crater's resident elephants and the Serengeti's family groups. The complete Northern Circuit starts from $1,456 per person. For the full elephant-guide breakdown of dry-month herds, sighting rates, and what to expect from a matriarch-led viewing, see our <a href="/blog/tanzania-elephant-safari/" className="text-terracotta underline">elephant safari in Tanzania guide</a>.

What is the best safari package for 2 people?

For two travellers, our most-booked route is the <a href="/itineraries/5-day-northern-circuit/" className="text-terracotta underline">5-Day Northern Circuit</a> from $1,456 per person — private vehicle, private guide, Tarangire · Serengeti · Ngorongoro. Couples who want to add beach time pair it with the <a href="/itineraries/5-day-zanzibar-safari-combo/" className="text-terracotta underline">5-Day Zanzibar + Safari</a> from $1,664 per person. Honeymoon couples typically upgrade to the <a href="/itineraries/7-day-honeymoon-safari/" className="text-terracotta underline">7-Day Honeymoon Safari</a> from $2,496 per person with luxury tented camps and private sundowners.

Do you offer all-inclusive Tanzania safari packages?

Yes. Every Safaris Tanzania package is fully all-inclusive — the price covers your private 4x4 Land Cruiser, your TATO-certified guide, all park and conservation fees, all accommodation, all meals, and airport transfers at Kilimanjaro (JRO). The only items not included are international flights, travel insurance, the $52 Tanzania visa, guide tips, and personal purchases. Our <a href="/itineraries/7-day-serengeti-ngorongoro/" className="text-terracotta underline">7-Day Serengeti &amp; Ngorongoro</a> at $1,872 per person is the benchmark all-inclusive northern circuit.

Can I book a private Tanzania safari package?

Every Safaris Tanzania package is private — your group travels alone with its own vehicle and guide. There is no seat-sharing with strangers, regardless of group size. For couples and families of 2-6, the standard pop-top Land Cruiser is your private vehicle. For 7-8 travellers we run two vehicles in convoy with the same lead guide so your group stays together. The <a href="/itineraries/10-day-ultimate-tanzania/" className="text-terracotta underline">10-Day Ultimate Tanzania</a> from $2,704 per person is the most-booked fully private route.

Do safari packages include flights?

Our safari packages do not bundle international flights — they cover everything inside Tanzania (vehicle, guide, accommodation, meals, park fees, and airport transfers at Kilimanjaro). International flights to JRO are typically $900–$1,800 round-trip from the US or Europe and vary too much by departure city to package meaningfully. Book the safari with us and the flights separately through your preferred channel — we will share your arrival time with the ground team so pickup is waiting. Our <a href="/itineraries/tanzania-safari-zanzibar/" className="text-terracotta underline">11-Day Safari &amp; Zanzibar</a> from $4,056 per person does include the internal domestic flight to Zanzibar.

What is the best Tanzania safari package for first-time visitors?

For first-time visitors, the <a href="/itineraries/5-day-northern-circuit/" className="text-terracotta underline">5-Day Northern Circuit</a> from $1,456 per person is the most-booked starter. It covers Tanzania's three signature parks in a pace that works for first-timers — Tarangire (elephants and baobabs), the Serengeti (big cats and the migration), and the Ngorongoro Crater (Big Five in a single day). If you have seven days, the <a href="/itineraries/7-day-serengeti-ngorongoro/" className="text-terracotta underline">7-Day Serengeti &amp; Ngorongoro</a> from $1,872 per person adds Lake Manyara and an extra night in the Serengeti.

2026 Group Rate Questions

Do you run private safaris for groups, or do you put us with strangers?

Private, always. Every Safaris Tanzania package — for two people or eight — is your group only. Your own vehicle, your own guide, your own schedule. We do not mix travellers from different bookings on the same vehicle. If you want a shared scheduled departure instead, our small group safari page lists the fixed-departure dates that run with 4-6 solo travellers.

How does the per-person price change as my group gets bigger?

The headline per-person rate is for two travellers sharing. As your group grows, the fixed costs (vehicle, guide, fuel, park fees that are not per-head) spread across more heads. Our 2026 group rate curve: 2 travellers $1,716/pp, 3-4 travellers $1,560/pp, 5-6 travellers $1,456/pp, 7-8 travellers $1,300/pp. The drop is meaningful but not unlimited — past 8 travellers we either add a second vehicle (priced as a second 2-pax unit) or quote a custom convoy arrangement.

What is the single supplement for a solo traveller?

Solo travellers pay a single-room supplement at the lodge (typically +25-40% on the per-person rate) and absorb the full vehicle-and-guide cost. For 2026, a solo Classic 5-day northern circuit works out to roughly $2,500-$2,900 per person depending on season. The cheaper option if you are travelling alone is to join one of our small group safari departures (4-6 guests, no single supplement, fixed dates) — see the small group safari page for upcoming dates.

Can my group of 6+ still get a private safari?

Yes. A standard pop-top Land Cruiser seats 6 comfortably. For 7-8 travellers we run two vehicles in convoy with the same lead guide — your group stays together, drives the same routes, and shares the same picnic stops, but each vehicle has window seats for everyone. We do not put 8 people in a 6-seater. If your group is larger than 8, we split into two self-contained convoys with a separate guide-and-driver team each — quoted as two packages with a small group discount on the second.

Do group rates apply to every tier (Budget, Classic, Premium)?

The per-person band ladder above is anchored on the Classic tier (our most-booked package, mid-range permanent tented camps and lodges). The same shape applies to Budget and Premium, scaled to their starting prices. For a 4-traveller Budget 5-day northern circuit you are looking at roughly $870/pp; for a 4-traveller Premium 7-day it is roughly $3,050/pp. Ask Don for an exact band quote for your group size and tier on WhatsApp.
