Peak Season Safari — The Classic Tanzania Adventure
The dry season draws wildlife to water sources in concentrated numbers. This is when you're most likely to see the Great Migration, big cats on the hunt, and the Great Rift Valley lakes teeming with flamingos.
Peak Season Highlights
- Great Migration crossing the Mara River — dramatic predator-prey action at its finest
- Elephant families gather near permanent water — Tarangire is extraordinary
- Ngorongoro Crater floor is the most densely wildlife-packed patch of Africa
- Cooler temperatures, dry roads, and clear sightlines for photography
- Calving season in the Southern Serengeti — predator action spikes
Peak season coincides with Northern Hemisphere summer holidays. Book 3+ months ahead to secure your preferred camps and vehicles.

March & November – December
Shoulder Season — The Smart Traveller's Choice
Sandwiched between peak crowds and green season rains, shoulder season delivers genuine value. Parks are quieter, rates are mid-range, and wildlife viewing remains excellent.
Short Rains Ending
The long rains begin easing by mid-March. Lush green landscapes, newborn wildlife, and dramatically fewer tourists. March offers the best combination of value and scenery.
Short Rains Beginning
The short rains bring fresh green flush to the plains. Bird migration is spectacular with European and Palaearctic species. Lodge availability is high, rates are lower than peak.
Festive Season Safari
Christmas and New Year safaris are magical — wildebeest calving starts in the Southern Serengeti, predator density is high, and the bush is green and beautiful.
Shoulder Season Savings
Save 8-12% vs peak season pricing. Private vehicle upgrades available.
April-May Only

July – October
Great Migration Safari — The World's Greatest Wildlife Spectacle
Two million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, make the ancient circular migration across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Witness river crossings where crocs take advantage of the chaos.
When to See the Migration
Wildebeest are in the northern Serengeti, crossing the Mara River into Kenya's Maasai Mara. River crossings are at their most dramatic — crocodiles line the banks.
Herds remain in the northern region. The return journey south begins in October as the short rains bring fresh grazing to the southern plains.
Calving season begins in the Southern Serengeti (short-grass plains near Ndutu). Over 8,000 calves are born daily in peak calving — February is peak calving month.
Herds graze on the rich short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area. Predators follow the herds — excellent cheetah sighting opportunities.
The long rains drive the herds west and north. Green season coincides with excellent wildlife viewing at lower prices.
